Surf’s up for a bunch of Long Island daredevils. Way up!
As Hurricane Lee encroaches on the Northeast, it has raised the surf at Montauk and other East End beaches, filling the waters with those looking to hang 10.
The swell began on Thursday, with waves expected to reach as high as 16 feet through Saturday as the storm passes by, as forecasters are predicting.
Hamptons photographer/videographer Joanna Steidle captured incredible footage of one daring surfer, Austin Eckardt, masterfully carving through a monster wave in Montauk on Thursday. Watch a snippet below. You can watch the full video here.
The National Weather Service has issued high surf and rip current advisories in effect from now through Saturday, September 16, at 8 p.m.
