This “inexperienced driver” almost made a big splash in downtown Port Jefferson on Mother’s Day evening.
Luckily, miraculously, no one was badly hurt.
That’s because the driver’s Jeep Grand Cherokee happened to go over the bulkhead, turn sideways and land nearly flat on a small strip of floating dock.
“Every day, I wake up and never know what the day will bring,” Supervisor Dan Panico wrote on his Facebook feed while posting this amazing video:
In his post, Panico called the driver, who has not been identified, inexperienced.
No reason was immediately given by authorities for what caused the SUV to careen off the dock.
Volunteers with the Port Jefferson Fire Department responded to the scene at Brookhaven Town Marina and removed the driver from the dock and secured the vehicle, fire officials said.
The driver, who suffered only minor injuries, was transported to a local hospital.

The crash was reminiscent of a June 2022 incident in which an 18-year-old woman in a Subaru Outback drove her car off Mascot Dock in Patchogue. That driver plunged into the water, but was saved by another teenager described as a good Samaritan.
What’s the Jeep get lifted Monday:
