Weather cancels Sunday’s Harvest Festival in Port Jefferson

|

Update: Expected stormy weather has forced the cancellation of Sunday’s Harvest Festival in Port Jefferson.

The Village of Port Jefferson made the announcement at noon Saturday.

There is no rain date.

“We have had 7 years of great event day weather, so see you all next year!” reads a message posted to the village’s Facebook page.

According to the National Weather Service, which has issued high winds and flood watches for the area Sunday through Monday, winds are expected to reach up to 20 mph Sunday, with a chance of precipitation of 90 percent.

“Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible,” the NWS predicts.

Original story: The Village of Port Jefferson‘s 8th annual Harvest Fest is coming to the downtown area once again.

And the fun runs all day Sunday, Oct. 29.

Between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be live music, spooky arts and craft, a farmer’s market, marshmallow roasting and more. (Complete schedule below.)

“The two biggest things are the chowder crawl and the costume dog parade, which is huge,” said Barbara Ransome, the director of operations for the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

Ransome is organizing the scarecrow contest, called Scarecrow Alley on East Main Street.

There are also pumpkin beer tastings at Craft at C’est Cheese on Main Street and Port Jefferson Brewing Company on Mill Creek Road.

“[The Harvest Fest] is a great way to get the residents out into the community,” said the village’s recreation director, Renée Lemmerman.

“It is a great event, especially if the weather is nice.”
