|

Due to rain in the forecast, the big kick-off will now happen a day early

The Ryder Cup’s Opening Ceremony at Bethpage Black has been bumped up by a day because of the threat of bad weather.

Tournament officials announced Tuesday that the festivities, originally scheduled for Thursday will now take place on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The Opening Ceremony pre-show begins at 3 p.m. Wednesday, followed by the official ceremony at 4 p.m.

For ticket-holders

Fans holding Ryder Cup+ tickets for Thursday will now be admitted on both Wednesday and Thursday, organizers said.

U.S. Captain Keegan Bradley and Europe’s Luke Donald will still announce the opening-day pairings as planned at 4 p.m. Thursday, though the location has yet to be determined.

Tightened security Friday

As Greater Long Island has reported, former President Donald Trump is expected at Bethpage Black on Friday, the opening day of competition. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said heavy security is planned in and around the course, with road closures and other restrictions anticipated.H

Historic week on L.I.

The change comes as the world’s eyes remain fixed on Bethpage Black, where the 2025 Ryder Cup is being played for the first time in New York. Thousands of international visitors have already descended on Long Island, from the fan village to the grandstands overlooking the iconic Par 4 on the 18th hole.

The Opening Ceremony typically features live entertainment, pageantry and introductions of the players from both teams.
