The Wegmans train has entered the station in Lake Grove.
The popular Rochester-based chain opens its first Long Island supermarket on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 9 a.m. after nearly three years of planning and construction at 3270 Middle Country Rd., in the DSW Plaza.

Measuring 100,000 square feet, Lake Grove marks just the third Wegmans in the region and follows openings in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
The Lake Grove location features the largest sub sandwich station in the NYC market, according to the company.
Leading up to its opening, store manager Dawn Cooper said future customers would stop by often to inquire about the opening date.
“Anywhere you go, if you’re wearing a Wegmans uniform, people would stop you …,” she said. “It’s exciting. And it’s exciting for our employees at the same time. They’re looking forward to showing the community what they’re passionate about, and what they’ve built here.”
Wegmans has also partnered with Island Harvest and Long Island Cares for near-daily food bank donations.
According to a Wegmans spokesperson, the company typically opens two to three locations per year. The Lake Grove store will be the first to open in 2025, followed by locations in Norwalk, Conn., and Rockville, Md., later in the summer.
