Wegmans plans hiring event in anticipation of early 2025 opening in Lake Grove

|

Wegman’s is gearing up for the opening of its first Long Island grocery store next year in Lake Grove, and hiring and training is now underway.

Once open, the store will be employing more than 500 people, company officials said.

To help reach that goal, ownership has announced they will be hosting an in-person hiring event for all full-time positions on Thursday, March 21, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at its Lake Grove hiring office at 2780 Middle Country Road, Suite 140, in Lake Grove.

That’s close to where the 95,000-square-foot store is opening in early 2025 at DSW Plaza, also on Middle Country Road.

Interested applicants are encouraged to submit an online application in advance of the event through this link. From there, someone will be in touch to schedule an interview time.

The Lake Grove team is also accepting online applications for a variety of entry level management and full-time openings across every department, including culinary positions, as well as roles in perishable departments (seafood, produce, meat, and bakery), according to a press announcement.

“We are thrilled to be opening Wegmans in the vibrant and welcoming community of Lake Grove in 2025,” said Lake Grove’s store manager, Dawn Cooper. “We look forward to getting to know the community, supporting local initiatives, and creating a positive impact.

“We are excited to be bringing around 500 new jobs to the area and are looking to hire energetic people who are passionate about people and food. Prior to the Wegmans Lake Grove opening we will be providing paid training at one of our existing stores.”

Demolition on the Lake Grove site began in November after Wegmans secured the last of its permitting approvals.

Wegmans’ planned arrival on Long Island — which follows the opening of stores in Brooklyn and Manhattan — has been highly anticipated among so-called Wegmaniacs and Lake Grove officials.

One aficionado replied to a @Greater_LI video of demolition posted to X (formerly Twitter), likening it to “Disneyland for adults.”

When the family-owned chain’s expansion to Long Island was announced in April 2022, Lake Grove’s mayor touted the “positive addition to our village” that would help boost retail in the area.

“The company has a reputation that will bring folks near and far into Lake Grove to do their shopping,” Mayor Robert Scottaline said at the time.

Wegmans operates 110 stores in eight states and has more than 53,000 employees.
