Funeral services have been scheduled for Dr. Shridevi “Shri” Singh, the West Islip breast cancer surgeon who died Wednesday, one month after the death of her 14-year-old daughter, Haley.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Massapequa Funeral Home – South Chapel, 4980 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park.
A Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 11:15 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 2 Bayview Ave. in Massapequa. Singh, who lived in Amityville and turned 41 in September, will be mourned in the same funeral home and church where services were held for her daughter last month.
Singh’s death on Wednesday was confirmed Friday evening by Catholic Health, which oversees the Good Samaritan Cancer Institute in West Islip, where Singh practiced. Her passing comes just over four weeks after Haley, a sophomore at St. Anthony’s High School, died.
Haley’s death on Oct. 6 came a week after she was diagnosed with leukemia. On the following day, her mom on Instagram posted a photo and brief video of them smiling and laughing together, with the message, “There isn’t a world where we exist without each other.”
‘Unbreakable’ bond

Later in that same heartfelt post, Singh remembered her daughter as a bright light.
“My babygirl was an incredible soul and I always knew that and I am so glad that all of you did too. She was a sweet spirited, joyful, kind, loving, thoughtful, affectionate, intelligent, human who always made sure to compliment others bc she loved bringing light into peoples lives,” Sing wrote in that Oct. 7 post.
“That’s her. Our bond is incredibly strong and unbreakable. Everyone knew about Haley being my center and how I cherished her so much. Spoke about her to everyone, even while operating, the OR staff would hear about my little Haley baby all the time.”
“The strength I need after losing her suddenly and the ordeal I have been through this short time will be of the greatest one a human could need, a mom would need. I’m not sure but I will try” — Dr. Shridevi Sing in Oct. 7 Instagram post.
Originally from Suriname, Singh built a respected career as a breast surgical oncologist and was known for her compassion, surgical skill, and commitment to patient care.
She raised Haley as a single mother while completing medical school, residency, a competitive breast surgery fellowship and a demanding career in medicine.
Colleagues, community groups and former patients have described Singh’s death as an immeasurable loss, noting the deep bond she shared with her daughter and the impact she had on women and families throughout the region.
