A timeless musical drama “West Side Story” has arrived at The Argyle Theater in Babylon Village.
West Side Story is a modern-day take on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, but set in 1950s New York City where two star-crossed lovers are caught between prejudice and warring street gangs.
The show runs from Thursday, Feb. 9, to April 2.
That’s good for a solid eight weeks and about 40 performances.
“This is a show we’ve been eyeing since before we even opened,” said Dylan Perlman, co-owner and managing partner of Argyle Theatre. “It’s the type of show that stands the test of time – it’s as iconic as it was when it was first released.”
Since the original cast performed the show on Broadway back in 1957, there have been several renditions of it — most recently a film in 2021.
Perlman said that while film versions are great, nothing compares to seeing West Side Story live in a theater.
“We’re just really excited to finally get an audience to see it here,” he said.
