Westhampton’s Korey Williams is VFW’s New York teacher of the year

Westhampton Beach High School social studies teacher Korey Williams was named the 2023 VFW New York State Teacher of the Year this week.

Recognized for his “unwavering patriotism and dedication to the goals of the VFW,” Williams has now twice received the honor. He was previously the veterans club’s teacher of the year in 2018.

Nominated by local VFW Post 5350, Williams is known for supporting the post’s annual Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy student essay contests and inviting post members to to the high school to tell their stories to students each November.

Williams has taught in the Westhampton Beach School District for 28 years. He also coaches the Westhampton Beach junior varsity boys and girls tennis teams.

A Navy veteran, Williams has been a member of VFW Post 5350 for 24 years. He is a retired 25-year member of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department and sits as president of the trustees at the Westhampton Beach Presbyterian Church.

With the state recognition, Williams is now eligible to become the national VFW Teacher of the Year.
