Wetzel’s Pretzels to return to Long Island with 2 locations

|

Wetzel’s Pretzels is making a comeback on Long Island this year.

The popular U.S. chain is set to open two locations on the island. The plans are to open at Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream in late spring and Roosevelt Field Mall in Uniondale in the fall, a spokesperson for the company confirmed.

The Pasadena-based fast-food joint specializes in serving up fresh pretzels, hot dogs, and frozen lemonades. Founded in 1994, the company currently operates 340 locations nationwide.

Wetzel’s left Long Island in 2022 after its final store, located at Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, closed, according to a Newsday report. It had operated for a decade in that location.

The new stores will open in the following locations:

  • The Green Acres Mall spot will be adjacent to Macy’s
  • The Roosevelt Field location will be inside Macy’s

There are two other locations currently running in New York, one in both Brooklyn and Manhattan. Two more Brooklyn locations are also in the works for 2024.

In addition to the existing locations, the company began a new expansion strategy last year by introducing a fresh concept. It unveiled two Twisted by Wetzel’s outlets — one in La Habra, Calif., and another in Surprise, Ariz. What sets these apart is the locations are larger and offer an enhanced menu. For instance, they feature Twistz, which is pretzel dough stuffed with cheese covered with toppings.

There’s another location in the works for South Gate, Calif. Although there are no apparent plans for a Twisted outlet in New York, we’ll keep you posted if one come our way.
