Zachary Hoerter, a dominating force on William Floyd’s offensive line since 2018, officially accepted a full athletic scholarship offer last month to play football at Stony Brook University next fall.
The senior guard anchored an offensive line that drove the Colonials to back-to-back Suffolk County Division I championships in 2018 and 2019.
William Floyd Coach Paul Longo said Hoerter received six full-ride college offers. Sacred Heart, Bryant, LIU Post, Central Connecticut and Fordham are the other schools that sought Hoerter, who will study health sciences in college.
“Zach’s success is no surprise, as he is an extremely hard worker. He does a great job in the weight room and at practice. He will make us proud at Stony Brook,” Longo said. “Zach is not only a great football player, but he does a great job in his classes with an 89 average.”
While playing at Floyd, Hoerter earned numerous honors, including All-State and All-County as a junior and All-Division as a sophomore.
The Mastic Beach resident had verbally committed over the summer to play at Stony Brook, which plays in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
“I’m beyond grateful to be in the position that I am in,” he said a Twitter post in August. “I would personally like to thank all of the coaches I’ve had throughout the years at William Floyd, I wouldn’t be here without any of you.”
Hoerter has attended William Floyd schools since kindergarten, including Moriches Elementary School and William Floyd Middle School.
