Suffolk cops are investigating a bank robbery that occurred in Selden on Friday, police said.
In a bit of a rare twist, Suffolk County Major Case Unit detectives said the robber was a woman — a notable fact, considering women account for only 6% of bank robberies in the United States, according to FBI data.
Police said the woman — described as white and wearing a surgical mask — entered Chase Bank at 999 Middle Country Road at 4:47 p.m. and presented a teller with a note demanding money. The bank employee complied and the suspect fled on foot with cash, authorities said.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the robbery to call the Major Case Unit at 631.852.6555 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.220.TIPS.
