The young man whose body was found floating near an Island Park dock earlier this month had injuries “consistent with being beaten and stabbed.”
That determination came after careful review by the Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said. The case is now a homicide.
But the victim has not been identified — and Nassau police are asking for the public’s help.
The body was discovered shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, when officers responded to a report of a dead person in the water near a dock just south of Railroad Place.
Police retrieved the body from the Wreck Lead Channel — which runs between Island Park and Long Beach — and pronounced the young man dead at the scene.
The victim is described by police as a Black or Hispanic male about 15 to 20 years old, 5-foot-4 and 130 pounds.
Homicide Squad detectives have released a picture (below) of his clothing, described as a beige T-shirt with black lettering and designs, along with black cargo joggers that had tactical pockets.
Anyone with information is being asked to call the Nassau County Homicide Squad at 516-573-7788.
