Do you have a pile of new or used greeting cards sitting in a draw somewhere?
Put them to great use right now.
Throughout January, Keep Islip Clean is collecting any-occasion cards on behalf of the St. Jude’s Ranch for Children and its Recycled Card Program.
At the ranch, volunteers will make new, “green” cards. The recycled cards are then sold to support St. Jude’s’ programs for abused, neglected and homeless children, young adults and families.
Any cards are accepted for donation, except for those containing family photos or inappropriate material, according to the group.
Any unused cards will be used for a letter writing campaign for U.S. soldiers overseas.
Drop your cards off at Keep Islip Clean, located at 660 Main Street in Islip.
Any groups collecting a large number of cards should contact Keep Islip Clean office ahead of time for additional sorting details. Or call 631-224-2627 for more.
Keep Islip Clean is an affiliate of the nationwide Keep America Beautiful.
St. Jude’s Ranch for Children was founded in Nevada in 1966.
How It Works:
Children at the Ranch help make new cards by using the front and attaching a new back. The result is a beautiful new card made by children and volunteers.
What Type of Card Can Be Donated:
Cards for any occasion will be accepted, with the exception of photos or inappropriate material. Remember, children are using these cards!
In addition, we also accept new cards/envelopes that will be used for a letter writing campaign to soldiers overseas. Please leave these cards intact.
How to Prepare Cards:
Cards for any occasion can be collected, but only the front of the card can be used. Neatly remove the card fronts and be sure they are clear of any writing or they cannot be made into useable cards! Leave new cards intact and with their envelopes.
