Officer Weiner of the 5th Precinct recognized for DWI arrests

Suffolk County 5th Precinct

Police officers from across Suffolk County were honored Tuesday for their work reducing drunken driving and reckless behavior on county roadways.

The ceremony was held at the police academy at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood.

Each department — including those on the East End — precinct and/or command nominated an officer who arrested the highest number of DWI offenders last year.

For the Fifth Precinct in Patchogue, which covers the greaterpatchogue.com coverage area and beyond, that police officer was Christopher Weiner. (Exact arrest figures not provided.)

Weiner was congratulated Tuesday — along with 22 others officers — by Suffolk County Executive Bellone, Police Commissioner Timothy Sini and Suffolk County Stop DWI representatives.

The Stop DWI program is supported by fines collected from people convicted of alcohol-related traffic infractions, county officials said.

“It is extremely important to us that motorists who are driving while intoxicated are stopped,” Bellone said. “DWI tragedies don’t just affect those involved, they impact the families of victims as well.”

Law enforcement agencies in Suffolk made over 15,000 DWI arrests in the past three years.
