The instantly popular Bean of Patchogue coffeehouse on West Main Street celebrated its first two months in business with a ribbon-cutting and grand opening party Saturday in Patchogue.
“I expected it to be busy, but honestly I didn’t think Patchogue would take to the shop’s vibe and culture as quick as they did,” said Rob Cutrone, one of the Bean’s owners. “The village is the best part of everything we have here .. we’ve been a part of Island to Table, a lot of local events, and the community has really embraced us.
“The customers have been the best part and this staff is phenomenal.”
This is the third Bean location on the island There are sister shops in Bay Shore and Babylon Village.
Cutrone is the face of the Patchogue location. He also designed the spot at 62 West Main Street. It took over 10 months for he and his partners to transform the prior Queen City Cupcakes into the rustic-yet-modern coffeehouse.
“This was in my head for 2 and 1/2 years, and now putting what was in my head on paper and seeing it come to life with real people in the shop has been amazing,” Cutrone said.
The huge bar in the shop’s center, as well as a big communal table in the back have been big draws at the Bean.
“That back table is a 300-year-old German piece of oak we had imported,” he said. “It’s a meant for anyone who wants to do business, family gatherings. It acts as the anchor of the shop, drawing everyone to the back. That’s the science behind the way I designed it. It should help look like the place is packed, and thank God it always has been. So it’s been really good.”
Among the attendees Saturday was David Kennedy, the executive director of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce.
“[Cutrone] did a beautiful job with the space,” Kennedy said. ‘He provides amazing, quality product. But what I really like the best is how he’s embraced this community, and how he’s shown his love for Patchogue, naming drinks after his fellow businesses and just being everywhere.
“Rob has become a fixture already in this town and we’re just blessed to have him.”
“I actually moved from West Islip two weeks ago to Patchogue,” Cutrone told GreaterPatchogue on Saturday. “Now I can bike to work or run to work.”
Cutrone opened with partners Sal Gervasi, who purchased Babylon Bean in 2010, and Mike Ferrara. Those same partners, along with known coffee roaster Dwight Amada, also started East End Coffee Roasters in October 2016.
