20 Photos: It was ‘Chefs for a Cause’ night to help fight breast cancer in Babylon

People from across Babylon Town and beyond crowded into the Venetian Yacht Club Wednesday night for the annual Chefs for a Cause dinner, which is in its 19th year.

Chefs for a Cause is the chief fundraiser of the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition. The event, highlighted by donated food and dessert from restaurants from across the town, typically raises about $60,000.

“Every dollar goes back to helping our ladies in treatment; every penny that we raise goes to our different programs,” said the nonprofit’s vice president, Erika Tripoli of Bay Shore.

Through those programs, women undergoing treatment for breast or gynecologic cancers receive transportation services for treatment, financial help with medical bills, whigs, and more.

“Anything that they need; it’s just amazing,” said Tripoli.

Karen Kunkel, Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition president, said the volunteers helps upward of 100 women each year who are battling cancer.

“And it’s not just the village; it’s all of Babylon Town,” she reminded.

Non-food related businesses get involved as well through raffle and auction prize donations, such as the huge pink paddleboard (pictured below) that came from South Shore Paddleboards.
