After 32 years, Babylon Bean is moving to a bigger Main Street space

|

After 32 years in Babylon Village, Babylon Bean is preparing for a move to a larger Main Street location, where customers can expect more seating, a fresh look and an expanded menu that goes well beyond coffee.

The longtime coffee shop at 17 Fire Island Ave. is moving to 54 E. Main St., just east of Bunger Surf Shop, with plans to open in time for the holiday season.

Co-owner Kayla Belcher, who has been involved with the business for 14 years and became an owner earlier this year, said the move will give Babylon Bean a much-needed refresh.

โ€œItโ€™s time to update,โ€ she said. โ€œIt will have all new stuff.โ€

More space, more food

The new location will undergo a complete renovation, with plans for a brighter, cozier interior featuring couches, plants, vintage frames and more room for customers to gather.

A new kitchen will also allow Babylon Bean to expand its menu beyond its traditional coffee shop offerings.

Belcher said customers can expect breakfast and lunch options, including smash burgers, fries, grilled cheese and soups. Coffee flights are also in the works.

The shop will continue supporting local artists and bakers, with a market-style display featuring locally made merchandise and baked goods.

A new chapter for a longtime favorite

Belcher emphasized that Babylon Bean is relocating, not closing permanently. The business plans to gradually transfer its equipment and supplies to the new space as preparations move forward.

And while the surroundings will change, Belcher said the relationships built over more than three decades will remain.

โ€œWe love our customers,โ€ she said. โ€œMany of them have become family over the years.โ€
