The mystery surrounding a long-planned Chick-fil-A in West Babylon finally has an answer.
It’s not coming.
Chick-fil-A has confirmed to Greater Long Island that the company is no longer moving forward with plans for a restaurant at the Great South Bay Shopping Center on Montauk Highway, ending a proposal that had lingered before the Town of Babylon for more than four years.
“We are always evaluating potential new locations in the hopes of serving existing and new customers great food with remarkable service,” Chick-fil-A said in a statement.
“We would very much like to have more restaurants in West Babylon, but we have no new locations to confirm at this time.”
According to a Newsday report from October 2025, the Babylon Town Planning Board first approved the proposal at 805 Montauk Highway in April 2022. The restaurant was slated for a pad site building that used to house Payless shoe store in the Great South Bay Shopping Center.
The initial plan was to demolish the building and construct a 5,000-square-foot chicken sandwich hot spot in its place, Greater Long Island reported in January 2022.
Then in September of 2025, Chick-fil-A headed back to the board with a modified and expanded site plan.
That plan was unanimously approved, Newsday had reported.
Although plans or West Babylon have fallen through, Chick-fil-A has confirmed to Greater Long Island that they are still moving with a Bay Shore location at a vacant TGI Fridays at South Shore Mall.
