Travel Alert: Full closure of westbound I-495 Friday night into Saturday morning

|

This is a notice from the state Department of Transportation, published in its entirety.

Motorists are advised that westbound travel lanes on I-495/Long Island Expressway will be closed Friday night, January 20, 2017 at Exit 53 in the Town of Islip, Suffolk County.  These closures will be in effect from 11pm until 5am Saturday morning.  Westbound traffic will be diverted to the westbound service road where at least one travel lane will remain open to motorists from 9pm until 5am Saturday morning.  Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes or allow extra time as they may experience some delays.

These closures are needed for the removal of an overhead sign structure.  As with most road work, this operation is weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.  Drivers are being provided advance notice of the closure via electronic road signs.  Emergency service providers and local officials have been notified of these travel lane closures. Motorists unable to use alternate routes are reminded to obey all traffic rules and drive carefully through the work zone for their protection and the safety of the night time work crew.

For real-time travel information motorists should call 511 or visit www.511NY.org, New York State’s official traffic and travel information source. Motorists may also obtain travel information from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at www.INFORMNY.com.

The New York State Department of Transportation appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists during this important sign removal operation.
