DOT: Expect lane closures on Sunrise Highway at Wellwood Avenue

|

Nighttime Sunrise Highway closures at Wellwood Avenue are expected to start on Wednesday, July 7, for a bridge replacement project, the state Department of Transportation announced today.

One or two eastbound and/or westbound lanes will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Friday, for about a month, DOT officials said.

On Friday nights in the eastbound direction, closures will be in effect between midnight and 6 a.m.

The nightly closures are in addition to the intermittent daytime closures at the Wellwood Avenue overpass that are in effect Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

At least one travel lane in each direction of Wellwood Avenue and Sunrise will remain open to traffic throughout the construction, reads a DOT advisory.

The $20.4 million construction of a new bridge will improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and the approximately 90,000 motorists who travel over and under this bridge each day, officials said.
