Students, teachers and faculty at Patchogue-Medford High School winded their hockey sticks back aiming to score goals at the seventh annual Stick it to Cancer Floor Hockey Tournament Tuesday, Feb. 25.
The yearly competition is a fundraiser that financially helps students in the district fighting a major illness.
This year’s tournament raised over $7,000 for Alexandra Diaz, a 10th-grader who is battling brain tumors.
The school’s gymnasium was filled with spectators like senior Brianna Hunter, who went to enjoy the night’s festivities while supporting her classmates and teachers.
“It was such a great cause and I’m so happy that the community is helping raise money for people who are suffering,” Brianna told GreaterPatchogue. “It was a heartwarming event.”
During the event, there are two brackets: one for students, the other for adults.
This year’s winners were F-Wings and Barton Speed Demons
The night was sponsored by the Silent Night Foundation of Smithtown, Professional Care Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation of East Patchogue, and Cirigliano Agency of Patchogue.
