|

Rescue workers on Long Island saved a dozen people from a sinking boat near Point Lookout over the weekend, police said.

Nassau County Police’s Marine Bureau 6 responded to a call for a 58-foot vessel about a half mile off shore that was taking on water, police said. Bay constables from the town of Hempstead and Oyster Bay, as well as Atlantic Beach Rescue team members and numerous fire departments, also contributed to the rescue effort on Saturday about 3:24 p.m.

All of the passengers were safely brought back to shore. No injuries were reported. The Long Beach Fire Department noted that two dogs were also rescued during the water emergency.

The Point Lookout rescue was among 20 emergency calls that the Long Beach Fire Department responded to on Saturday, the department said.

Sea Tow responded to tow the vessel back to shore.
