Prep work for the long-awaited repaving of Route 112 in Patchogue started today, Monday, with lane closures expected during non-peak hours moving forward.
Motorists are advised to find alternative travel routes.
The construction will be running up and down Route 112 (in sections), from East Main Street to Lincoln Road, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., according to state Department of Transportation officials.
At least one northbound and southbound lanes will be open at all times, with multiple lane closures most likely coming during nighttime work hours.
No timeline was given on how long the work should last.
“Intermittent brief closures of all lanes may also be utilized to accommodate positioning of construction equipment,” reads a public alert issued by the DOT last week.
The project comes as part of a $7.8 million effort by the DOT to repair Long Island roadways and improve safety, said DOT spokeswoman Eileen Peters. During the 112 mill and fill operation, the top layer of the heavily damaged pavement will be removed and replaced, Peters said.
Traffic signal vehicle detector loops will also be replaced and fresh pavement markings installed, she said. Drainage cleaning and repairs will also be performed.
