This is a message from the Bellport Village Program Fund.
Over 200 guests gathered for cocktails in the garden at the bayfront home of Roger and Sava Thomas on Saturday, Aug. 13, to support the highly successful projects launched by the Bellport Village Program Fund.
Many local businesses and residents generously contributed to the exciting auction and raffle. (More photos below.)
Bellport Village Program Fund chair Michael Foster led the guests in a toast to the success of the many projects executed thus far which include:
Operation Bite Back
Fifth consecutive year of mosquito abatement at Ho Hum and Mother’s beaches.
Osborn Park Rejuvenation
Purchase and installation of elegant benches and picnic tables near the reconstructed gazebo overlooking the Bellport Marina. Worked together with the village to execute new irrigation and landscaping.
Ho Hum Beach
Umbrellas at the ferry waiting area to provide shade to beachgoers at Mothers Beach; rejuvenation of the grounds, including new playground equipment.
Project Clean Sweep
Third year of industrial beach cleaning twice per summer at Mothers and Marina Park beaches.
Friends of Bellport Bay
Second year in partnership with FOBB, Brookhaven Town, and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County; together have seeded over 350,000 oysters in Bellport Bay in the last twoi years.
Bellport Golf Club
Historic pump house was restored behind the 9th tee.
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine attended with his wife Saturday and praised the efforts of the group, and in particular emphasized his support of the oyster seeding project that is helping clean the waters of Bellport Bay.
Foster also announced the Bellport Village Program Fund will be continuing all of its ongoing projects, and statedthey are looking at new projects at the Bellport Community Center, and a possible partnership with the Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society.
The Program Fund also hosts several social gatherings during the summer, including Family Bingo nights and an evening party at Mother’s Beach with Flo’s Famous food truck, called “Meet the Parents.”
The Bellport Village Program Fund, a private, not-for-profit 501(C)3 organization, is dedicated to executing projects that contribute to the beautification and cultural awareness of Bellport Village and to the education and engagement of its youth.
All contributions are tax deductible and go 100 percent directly to projects, with the ground’s board funding all operating expenses. All the projects are done in cooperation with the Village of Bellport and demonstrate the power and benefit of such public/private partnerships.
