Islip Animal Shelter teams up with NBCUniversal for ‘Clear the Shelters Day’ Saturday

|

The Town of Islip is teaming up with NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47 on Saturday as shelters across the region and the nation make a big push to find homes for abandoned pets during NBCUniversal’s national Clear the Shelters Day, it was announced today.

All day Saturday, a real-time pet “Adoption Tracker” on cleartheshelters.com will record the total number of pets being adopted across all participating markets — and the Islip Town Animal Shelter in Bay Shore will be reporting.

According to NBCUniversal, last year’s inaugural effort resulted in nearly 20,000 pets finding new homes with the help of NBC stations and animals shelters across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

“Our animal shelter has many great pets looking for new homes, and they’d make a loving addition to any family,” Supervisor Angie Carpenter said in a statement. “We’re proud to be a part of this nationwide effort to give these animals a second chance in life.”

The free adoptions are being offered a the shelter at 210 South Denver Avenue from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Click here to see list of participating shelters on Long Island and NYC.

You can use the hashtag #ClearTheShelters or #DesocuparLosAlbergues to follow the effort on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Clear the Shelters-themed Snapchat filters will be activated on July 23.
