Babylon’s Overlook Beach plays host to ‘Runway for a Cause’ Friday night

|

After six years in Long Beach, the Runway for a Cause show by Ooh La La boutiques heads to Babylon Town for the first time Friday night at Overlook Beach.

Not one model has hit the runway, but already the event has generated $20,000 for charity, said chief organizer and Ooh La La boutiques owner Jenny Montiglio.

“I think we’ll definitely hit our goal” of $25,000, she said Thursday.

This year, event proceeds will benefit the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition and First Company Pink of Hicksville.

“Every year we work with different local charities,” said Montiglio

Tickets are $75 and are available at any of Ooh La La’s five locations: Babylon, Saville, Ocean Beach, Long Beach or Huntington.  And, as Montiglio points out, its a public beach, so space is not limited and people are free to pay at the door.

“They can just roll up,” she said.

Erin Colton of News 12 Long Island will be emceeing the event.

The night features a red carpet entrance and meet and greet area, as well as live performances, DJ-spun music and shopping and sampling opportunities from fashion and beauty purveyors from across the island and beyond.

“And we have the most amazing raffle baskets, worth at least $300 each, as well as grand prizes, vacations with airfare …” Montiglio said. “All of our friends and neighbors have just went all out to support us.”

The 20-minute fashion show is held over 120 feet of runway and includes 11 breast cancer survivors. There’s also a stylists area for the models’ hair and makeup.

Among those whose work will be on display Friday night is Matthew Ambrosio of North Babylon, also a GreaterBabylon contributor.

“As an indie designer from Long Island this event combines all the things I love and what my brand represents — community, fun fashion and the creative entrepreneurial spirit,” he said. “Very excited to participate.”

Over the past six years, Ooh La La Boutiques has raised over $100,000 for Long Island charities.

On Friday they will be “turning the beach pink” from 6 to 10 p.m. to help fight breast cancer.
