Rich Mahogany will headline 2016’s Taste of the South Shore

Taste of the South Shore 2016The Islip Chamber of Commerce is getting set for its annual festival on the water for Long Island’s local-vores.

Taste of the South Shore starts at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, on the grounds of the Seatuck Environmental Association’s nature center at the Scully Estate in Islip (map below).

With the help of the popular band Rich Mahogany, the chamber is expecting its biggest crowds to date.

“It’s a great night,” said the chamber’s president, Doris Kennedy of Kennedy L.I. Realty Inc. of Bay Shore. “It will be a ladies’ night for one group, or a couples’ night out for another group. People come and hang out for the whole night. They have a great time with great local food and drinks.”

“It’s just getting more popular and we’ve really amped up the music this year with Rich Mohagany, which has a huge following,” she added.

Tickets are $50 to sample food and drinks from restaurants, beverage suppliers and breweries from across the South Shore, from Babylon to Sayville and beyond. “We might pick a brewery or a winery that’s not necessarily local right here, but they would be local to the Island,” Kennedy said.

Bob Pinnola of the Suburban Brothers Band, who has performed at all the Taste of the South Shore events, will be opening up for Rich Mahogany.

The first two Taste of the South Shores were held at Captain Bill’s in Bay Shore, before moving to Seatuck last year.

The 2015 event attracted about 200 people, Kennedy said.

A portion of the proceeds from the 2016 installment will be going toward 9-1-1 Veterans, which provides emergency financial assistance to those who have served, or are still serving, in the U.S. military.

Kennedy said the group steps up to fill the void when the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs can’t really help with life’s needs. “If a veteran needs help with paying a mortgage, or say a car breaks down, they’re there to help,” she said.
