‘Go Bigg Or Go Home IPA’ gets released this Saturday at Great South Bay Brewery

Chris “Bigg” Kelley

ChrisBrewSession_4The earth trembles.

In Jurassic Park-like fashion, concussion ripples form in your pint glasses. Small paintings shake loose from the walls. Birds, previously napping on electric lines, take flight and scatter themselves to the wind.

Something bigg approaches.

Chris “Bigg” Kelley is no lightweight in stature nor ability. At 6’7” and over 275 pounds, Chris will crush your little girly skull like an empty can of Pabst (that’s what the hipsters drink these days, right?).

But as a former Pro-Am winner, he also has a wizard’s touch when it comes to brewing beer.

Chris has brewed twice before with the guys at Great South Bay Brewery. Basil In The Rye (the beer that won the Pro-Am) and Bigg IPA were tributes to his love for brash, yet well-crafted and thoughtful IPAs.

Go Bigg Or Go Home IPA, his third recipe to go through GSB’s kettles, promises to follow suit.

After much research, Chris’ brewing process was altered (different temperatures, different hop addition schedule) in order to showcase the hop properties and create a smoother, drier IPA. This is also the first time he has chosen to filter the beer which will result in a drink that is as pleasing to the eye as it is to your taste buds.

Nelson Sauvin (a New Zealand hop known for tropical fruity notes such as passion fruit, grapefruit and tangerines), Mosaic (“rich in Mango, lemon, citrus, earthy pine, tropical fruit, herbal and stone fruit notes.”) and Citra hops (“peach and lychee fruit”) are the carefully selected trio that will wallop you with citrusy, resinous goodness, all the while balanced with a chewy backbone provided by Vienna, Munich and White Wheat malts.

Sound good?  Have I whipped my brothers and sisters of Humulus lupulus into a frenzy?

Want to get Go Bigg Or Go Home into your rumbling belly? Here’s how:

  1. Break open your piggy bank.
  2. Get your arse over to Great South Bay Brewery in Bayshore THIS SATURDAY!!

The tasting room opens at high noon but you can feed your addiction for hoppy goodness as late as 10 p.m.  Admission is free. Beer is, of course, pay as you go.

There is — for a modest fee — a cornhole contest (which sounds kinda dirty to me).

In addition to Mr. Kelley’s killer IPA, the tasting room also offers it’s entire regular lineup.

I’d better see you down there or else you’ll make Chris angry.  And as a famous doctor once said, “You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry…”
