DOT warns of Southern State lane closures between Exit 42 and Exit 43

|

The state is warning motorists of road closures on the Southern State Parkway between Exit 42 (Route 111) and Exit 43 (5th Avenue) that will last until mid-September.

One or two eastbound and/or westbound lanes will be closed during off-peak daytime hours, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, according to a state Department of Transportation traffic advisory.

A single travel lane might also be closed to traffic at times on the westbound side of the Southern State between 5th Avenue and the Sagtikos Parkway (Exit 41).

The closures will last for about five weeks, depending on weather, according to the DOT.

Clearing the lanes of traffic will allow the state to undertake maintenance work on the Commack Road bridge and Sagtikos Parkway ramp, both of which run over the parkway.

Drivers are encouraged to use Sunrise Highway.
