The authors of the new Images of America book, Bay Shore, will be at the Barnes & Noble in Bay shore on Saturday, May 20, for a special book signing and discussion.
The event is open to the public and an opportunity to share your own experiences of Bay Shore, and Long Island with the authors, Christopher Verga and Neil Buffett.
Verga is also the author of 2016’s Civil Rights on Long Island, also published by Arcadia for the Images of America series, which showcases local histories from across the United States.
With the Bay Shore book, Verga told GreaterBayShore in April that he and Buffet “wanted to tell the story of our community and share it with the general public. Verga lives in Bay Shore, and Buffett lives in Brightwaters Village.
Both are history professors at Suffolk County Community College.
Verga, in the meantime, had been busy this past year, visiting libraries across the island to discuss his debut work, “Civil Rights on Long Island.”
“The Civil Rights on Long Island book highlights the forgotten chapter of racial struggles in suburban Long Island,” he said. “The pages of the Civil Rights on Long Island stand as a reminder of what we have accomplished and what we still need to accomplish as an increasingly diverse suburb.”
Barnes and Noble is located at 842 Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore. The store is hosting an all-day book fair, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., during which time 10 percent of proceeds of the Bay Shore book will go toward the Bay Shore Historical Society.
At noon, Verga and Buffett will be signing copies of Bay Shore, and Verga will be available to sign his Civil Rights on Long Island book.
At 4:30 p.m., both will host an historical discussion related to the history of Bay Shore.
