YMCA visitors and churchgoers rejoice!

Sundays with A.J. is once again a thing in Bay Shore.

AJ’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese Shop has just announced it will be opening on Sundays for summer at its 182 West Main Street location.

AJ’s had been closed on Sundays this past winter into the spring.

The other news is AJ’s will be open at 8 a.m. on Sundays (closing at 2 p.m.) and serving breakfast until 10:30 a.m. when the full menu goes into effect.

“We opened up last Sunday and will remain open through the end of August, beginning of September,” said AJ’s owner Anthony Leis, who opened up his grilled cheese shop about 18 months ago.

“We are really hoping to draw in customers for breakfast as they pour out of St.Patrick’s Church in the morning or as they head out early to hit the beaches or catch their early morning ferry over to Fire Island.”

Leis said he expects to still shut down on Sundays in the colder months.

” … because customers weren’t really walking across the street from the church in the cold weather,” he said.

AJ’s breakfast sandwich is the “Wake Up Melt,” which is bacon or ham, egg and cheese on white bread that’s a bit lighter than the sourdough slices. (Pictured below.) Tater tots are also available.

“We wanted to mimic the size of a typical egg sandwich or bagel you would buy for breakfast at the local deli or bagel shop and try and keep the price still reasonable ($4.75), being that it is all melted on the press between the slices of bread making it a ‘breakfast grilled cheese,’ which takes it a notch above your average bacon egg and cheese.”
