Bay Shore student journalists continue to outshine their peers here on Long Island.

The high school’s student newspaper, The Maroon Echo, won Newspaper of the Year honors through the Long Island Press for a 10th year in a row.

There’s never been another student newspaper to win that award yet.

The 10th annual Long Island Press High School Journalism Awards was held at Hofstra University on May 30.

“Skill, dedication and enthusiasm…flowed from each of the more than 2,000 entries submitted by over two dozen high schools,” Timothy Bolger, editor in chief of the Press, wrote in a letter to the students, according to longislandpress.com.

“The quality of submissions gave us hope that the public will be well served by the next generation of journalists.”

The Bay Shore paper and its staff received 38 awards in the contest, and advisor Walt Fishon was named Advisor of the Year for the ninth year in a row.

Among the awards for individual reporters, co-editor Emma Casey placed 3rd for High School Journalist of the Year, according to the school district. Co-editor Emma Boskovski received an Honorable Mention for Story of the Year.
