It was a record-breaking July for Greater Long Island with 231,000 views

It was a record-breaking month for Greater Long Island Digital Media Group LLC, publishers of four community news sites in Suffolk County through greaterlongisland.com.

In total, the sites were viewed 231,182 times in July by 133,230 unique visitors, good for the most monthly traffic since greaterpatchogue.com launched in July of 2015.

The previous record was reached in March 2018, when the sites reached 209,555 views and 133,893 unique visitors.

Last year, the sites were viewed nearly 2 million times.

“It’s a busy time of year with people looking for information and coverage from Alive After Five in Patchogue, Alive by the Bay in Bay Shore and other fun summer stuff,” said Greater Long Island Media’s editorial director, Michael White.

“We also had an opinion column by Michael Hynes, superintendent of the Patchogue-Medford School District, that was very widely circulated; it will probably be our most-read post of 2018.”

“Dr. Hynes will also soon be joining the team as a regular columnist,” White added. “We’re thrilled to have a community leader like him using our media company as a platform to advance constructive thoughts and ideas about the state of public education in this country.”

Greater Long Island will also be taking on former intern and St. Joseph’s College journalism student Alyssa Vera as a part-time reporter starting Aug. 7.

This winter, the company circulated a reader survey, through which the sites, which are free to all visitors, garnered 4.28 out of 5 stars for user satisfaction. Click here for the full survey results.

“We will be adding resources and evolving as a news organization based, in part, on the feedback we’ve received in those surveys,” White said.

“Our advertisers make this all possible,” he added.

Greater Long Island Digital Media Group runs GreaterPatchogueGreaterBayShoreGreaterBabylon and GreaterPortJeff.

The Port Jefferson site is the newest site, having launched on Sept. 13, 2017, and is the company’s first on the North Shore.

Greater Long Island is a proud member of the New York Press Association.
