Sailors and eager spectators flooded Port Jefferson’s village dock on Sept. 11 for the 12th annual Village Cup Regatta in Port Jefferson Harbor.

The event, presented by Port Jefferson’s Yacht Club, is a friendly sailing competition between Mather Hospital and the Village of Port Jefferson. The day raises money for Lustgarten Foundation’s pancreatic cancer research and Mather’s Palliative Medicine Program.

The event is run with the help of actor Ralph Macchio.

Festivities began in the morning with a parade of sailboats, large to small, decked out in banners and nautical flags.

After the parade, the two teams, sailed off to start the competition. This year’s victor went to the village, while the event raised over $104,000, a record for the regatta.
