Three in East Islip are named National Merit Commended Students

Three East Islip High School seniors have been named Commended Students by the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program, it was announced last week.

Claudia Banville, Evan Mauner and Kevin Varga were recognized for their outstanding test results in the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Commended Students represent the top 3.3. percent of young people from across the country with the highest scores on the qualifying Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

About 1.6 million high school juniors across the U.S. took the qualifying test.

Founded in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit that conducts the National Merit Scholarship Program, which is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships.
