Update: Fall and Halloween festivals planned for Saturday in Islip, Bay Shore are cancelled

|

Update: The Islip Chamber of Commerce has cancelled Saturday’s Fall Festival because of weather, it announced on its Facebook page. (Post below.)

There is no rain date that has been determined; Chamber leaders indicate Sunday is not an option. Also, the Bay Shore Haunted Halloween Festival has also been cancelled.

Original Story: The Islip Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first-ever Fall Festival later this month in the field behind Town Hall West.

Not to be confused with the Oct. 16 street fair, which is run by the Islip Fire Department, the inaugural chamber event will be held the next weekend, on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The chamber’s president, Doris Kennedy of Kennedy L.I. Realty Inc. of Bay Shore, explained the first Fall Festival comes after the group’s annual trick-or-treat on Main Street was called off last year.

“The volume of kids on Main Street was just not safe anymore,” she said. “So we thought a fall festival would be a nice way to replace that, also with events for kids along with things that families could enjoy together.”

Kennedy said the vendors will be mostly of the craft variety, hailing from Islip and elsewhere on Long Island.

The festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will also feature specialty and seasonal foods like roasted corn, live entertainment, line dancing, a pumpkin patch and decorating, a kids’ costume parade and contest, a charity pie eating contest, face painting and more.
