A reported $500,000 in grant money is about to make a planned pedestrian plaza at Park Avenue and Main Street in Bay Shore a reality.
According to Newsday, the Town Board voted last month to allow Supervisor Angie Carpenter to accept the funds, which will be used to turn Park into a pedestrian friendly plaza.
The report indicates the town has to contribute $150,000 in matching funds to the state grant.
These are the same plans that garnered a Smart Growth award last year from Vision Long Island.
According to prior GreaterBayShore reports, the plaza is meant to solve a traffic snarl, encourage a more walkable community and bring a festive feel to the center of Main Street.
There will be outdoor music and special events on the lawn.
It will be located adjacent to the Village Place apartments complex, also the home of Pinot’s Palette and Salt & Barrel Oyster Bar, which is hoping to use the space for outdoor dining.
