Achievements: Islip seniors named Commended Students by National Merit Scholarship Program

Islip High School seniors Grace Constantino and Madeline Edwards were recently named Commended Student by the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program, the district announced this week.

Commended Students represent the top 5 percent of young people from across the country with the highest scores on the qualifying Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

About 1.4 million high school juniors across the U.S. took the qualifying test.

Founded in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit that conducts the National Merit Scholarship Program, which is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships.
