Barn Door 49 is just weeks away from opening in Bay Shore

|

It will open in winter, but that won’t stop the couple behind Barn Door 49 from stocking their new farm-to-table restaurant in Bay Shore with produce, meats and cheeses from eastern Long Island and Upstate.

But Gina and Lenny Jaworowski are keeping that first of many seasonal menus close to the vest.

They did, however, offer GreaterBayShore a tour of the renovation work inside their old Milk & Sugar restaurant, which opened 18 years ago on 49 West Main Street.

The island-known Milk & Sugar closed Sept. 7.

The Jaworowskis and their teams got to work on Barn Door 49 the next night.

“We want to be the hot spot again,” Gina Jaworowski told us in August. “And it’s like anything … you have to change and start fresh and reinvent and think of new approaches.”

Today, the space is outfitted with reclaimed barn wood, Edison lighting, chalkboard walls and a fireplace strategically placed in the middle of the back dining room.

“This is fireside seating,” said Gina.

“I’m just so excited and so happy,” she added. “Even though the place is under construction, you can still feel the warmth and coziness in here. It’s like a barn hit Main Street.”

Also installed this fall was a bar that seats 12 and an arch threshold that separates the front bar and small dining area from the full dining room.

“This is where you can wait here, in anticipation,” she said of the front area, which will be completely open to the street on nice days.

The Jaworowskis wanted to invite the media over this week to remind the public that the new Barn Door 49 is moving along. A January 2018 opening is planned.

And, “We wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday and a happy New Year,” she said.
