The opening of Coastal Kitchen & Daiquiri Bar in Bay Shore is upon us

|

The nearly two-year transformation of Bay Shore Furrier on Main Street into the gleaming new Coastal Kitchen & Daiquiri Bar is complete.

That work included, among other things, a glass and iron facade (something co-owner Anthony Tartaglia sketched out in 2016 a loose leaf paper), huge skylights, as well as a string of windows installed on the building’s east side.

All that glass works to provide a sun-splashed island vibe in what used to be a cavernous old building on East Main Street.

There, Anthony Tartaglia, his brother Andrew and chef Zach Rude will be showcasing cuisine and cocktails from coastal communities around the globe.

Hence the name Coastal.  And Coastal is now open, a moment that’s been much anticipated in the Greater Bay Shore area and beyond.

The trio opens the doors to the public at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, for their first happy hour.

The Tartaglia brothers of Bay Shore established Verde Kitchen & Cocktails to the east in the fall of 2014.

They partnered with Rude, Verde’s popular chef, on the new venture.

“We’re also bringing along our chef from Verde, which is important to us,” Andrew Tartaglia previously told GreaterBayShore.

the new place

Anthony Tartaglia says he’s excited for “everything” about the new place.

“I’m excited to show people what we’ve been working on for two years, conceptually, physically, the space, the finishes, the drinks, the food, “ he said.

“It’s just a whole different concept for Bay Shore.”

They describe the concept as more casual than in Coastal’s sister restaurant, Verde. The shuffleboard table, pool table and dartboards get that across immediately.

Yet it’s accomplished within a backdrop of industrial elegance.

“So it’s a bar setting but with the same quality food and drinks you would find at a restaurant,” Anthony Tartaglia said. ‘The same quality we would do at Verde.”

While the cocktail program is more Caribbean inspired, the dishes are “eclectic,” Anthony said, ranging from a New England-style lobster bake to a Korean barbecue steak sandwich to MoFongo Bites from Puerto Rico (photo below).

“We have influences from all over the world,” Tartaglia said.

Coastal will be open daily starting at 11:30 a.m. with closing times to be determined, though the kitchen will likely stay open until around 11 p.m.. on weeknights and midnight Friday and Saturday nights. Happy hour will run from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday brunch to come later.
