L.I. brewers get together to create Craft Cares at Fire Island Beer Co.

|

It was a special brew Tuesday at Fire Island Beer Company in Bay Shore, where brewers from across the island got together to concoct the 2018 installment of Craft Cares.

Craft Cares is a collaborative beer brewed and packaged specifically for Long Island Craft Beer Week’s “Can for a Can” food drive for Long Island Cares, Inc. in May.

The drive benefits the hungry and food insecure in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

This year’s special beer-for-food brew is a bicoastal India Pale Ale using ingredients entirely from Long Island, said Beer Week president David Schultzer.

The goal is to raise 5,000 pounds of food for Long Island Cares in this fourth year of the effort. To help that along, some brewers have vowed to shave their beards if the mark is reached.

The cans will be available at all participating Long Island Craft Beer Week locations.

The week is packed with special events and runs from May 11 to May 20.
