Take a photo tour of Mr. D’s in the old West Lake caterers in Patchogue

The transformation of the former West Lake catering hall in Patchogue into the second incarnation of Mr. D’s Ultimate Fitness on West Main Street is just about complete.

The whole process of renovating happened in less than two months.

“It took six weeks to renovate and then six days to move everything” said Mr. D’s co-owner Garrett Forman.

Garrett and his father, co-owner Dennis Forman, said their goal all along was to modernize and offer top-notch amenities and equipment for members while maintaining Mr. D’s’ family atmosphere.

“The goal was to keep it a family oriented gym,” Dennis Forman said.

Mr. D’s moved from the Briarcliffe College building to the west to make room for the Blue Point Brewery that’s now in the works.

“Our gym had a real energy at the other place, where everyone knew each other and we wanted to keep that energy, then make it newer and nicer for everyone — but keep it homey,” said Garrett.

The building is roughly 24,000 square feet in size with space in an open, upstairs loft for cardio. The women’s and men’s locker rooms also feature saunas.

What’s not pictured below is a turf room that’s still in the works, which will offer cross-training style activities.

Mr. D’s has also welcomed Metro Physical and Aquatic Therapy into the fold. Metro is a separate business operating off the front foyer. Metro also plans to offer aquatics therapy at the neighboring YMCA. (Check back for more on Metro.)
