Southside Hospital unveils new pediatric and medical/surgical units in Bay Shore

|

The start of November at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore marked the unveiling of new pediatric and medical/surgical units.

“In creating these new units, we recognized the importance of having a healing environment where patients feel less like they are in a hospital and  more at ease,” said Donna Moravick, Southside’s executive director. “And especially in the pediatric unit, we wanted to provide a chance for parents to comfortably stay with their children without worrying about going home to shower or sleep.”

The pediatric unit has a nautical theme, featuring a ship at the nursing station and deep sea view in the playroom, with six patient rooms featuring sleeper couches for parents and guardians, hospital officials explained.

Each of the rooms, which includes a dedicated pediatric isolation room, has two TV sets, so kids and parents can each do their own thing. There are also computers.

The nine rooms in the medical/surgical area have monitored, technologically enhanced bed, and feature different design inspirations such as the beach and a desert.
