The team from Sand City Brewing Co. has big plans for their planned location in Lindenhurst, which they’re hoping to open sometime next spring.
Partners William Kiernan and Kevin Sihleropened opened the original, 10-barrel Sand City brewery and tasting room in Northport in October 2015.
The much larger Lindenhurst location, which will be built in the long-vacant CVS building on South Wellwood Avenue, will feature a 20-barrel system and tasting room.
“The additional capacity will help us expand into other styles we just don’t have the current space for, including wild ales and barrel aged beers,” Kiernan told GreaterBabylon. “On the service side, the larger tasting room will enable us to have a greater capacity to serve.”
He also said the property’s dedicated parking lot will allow Sand City to host community evens and small festivals.

“There are many things we just don’t have the physical space to do currently,” Kiernan said, “and this project will assist in that.”
The partners started looking for more space about a year and a half ago.
“Then [village trustee] RJ Renna reached out to us last February and showed us around the village,” Kiernan said. “It’s been a long road, and when I saw 150 South Wellwood I knew it could be something really good for us and the community.”
The Babylon Industrial Development Agency has agreed.
The Babylon IDA board voted unanimously Wednesday on nearly $500,000 in property and sales tax breaks to help make the brewers’ vision possible — as well as the overall vision for Lindenhurst.
Renna called Sand City’s arrival “a pivotal moment for our village’s revitalization.”
“They are making a huge investment in our community and we are excited for the many restaurants and shops that will benefit from their establishment,” Renna said.
After zeroing in on the location, the team of Sand City had a lot to figure out — numbers and logistics wise — but they got help from Renna, as well as the building’s landlord.
“We only recently discovered the IDA aspects that were available to us,” Kiernan said. “The package of course comes with stipulations such as capital improvements and jobs creation. We will be investing in the physical space in addition to creating part-time and full-time jobs in both manufacturing and retail capacities.”
He said the IDA package “significantly” enabled their plans for Lindenhurst to happen.
Sand City is widely known in the craft community for putting out top-notch beer, GreaterBabylon can objectively report.
“We love how much passion our Northport community has for its home,” said Kiernan, “and we discovered a similar spirit on the South Shore in Lindenhurst …”
Sand City will keep its original tasting room up and running on the North Shore as well.
“From the beginning of our business we were determined to make a super premium product with only the best ingredients from around the world,” Kiernan added. “We equally wanted to be involved in our local world. The brewing community on Long Island is very close knit, and we are very fortunate to be a part of that world and growth as well.”
