A Patchogue man faces attempted murder, burglary and a bevy of other charges for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and stabbing her 22-year-old son multiple times, prosecutors said Friday.

Robert Schreiber, 42, pleaded not guilty on Thursday to the charges relating to the April 18 attack. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said the suspect allegedly entered the Patchogue home about 8 a.m. through an unlocked window and attacked the victim in his bedroom, stabbing him seven times in the head, neck and shoulder.

The previous night, Schreiber’s long-time girlfriend broke up with him and locked him out of her home, prosecutors said.

Everyone inside the home was asleep when Schreiber broke in. The victim managed to escape the attack as his family members intervened and called 911, authorities said.

Suffolk police arrived and assisted the victim, who was taken by ambulance to NYU Langone Hospital, where he received numerous staples to close his stab wounds. Schreiber was arrested at the scene and allegedly found carrying the knife used in the attack.

“This was a violent attack on a young man in his own home,” Tierney said. “Domestic violence does not always end when a relationship does, it often escalates. We will aggressively prosecute this defendant and seek justice for the victim and his family.”

Schreiber was arraigned Thursday before Supreme Court Justice John Collins on charges that included second-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, and second-degree harassment.

Collins ordered Schreiber held on $100,000 cash, $1 million bond, or $1 million partially secured bond. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the top count.

Greater Long Island was unable to reach Schreiber’s attorney Ira Weissman for comment. The story will be updated once we are able to speak with him. Schreiber is due back in court May 28.
