Bay Shore art teacher charged with stalking ex-student he had sexual relationship with

John Kennedy, 53, was arrested after the 18-year-old told police he followed her from her home to Selden

A Bay Shore High School art teacher stalked a former student with whom he had a sexual relationship with while she was still enrolled at the school, police said Thursday.

John Kennedy, 53, was taken arrested at his home on Moriches Road in St. James at 4:10 p.m., hours after the 18-year-old woman told police he had followed her from her house to Selden that morning, according to authorities.

Police responded to the scene about 10:40 a.m., after the woman arrived at her destination in Selden.

Suffolk Police determined Kennedy had a sexual relationship with the woman when she was a 17-year-old senior at Bay Shore last school year, police said.

Over the several weeks, Kennedy had been seen driving past the woman’s house multiple times, cops said.

Police charged with fourth-degree stalking. Kennedy is being held in jail overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip.
