Meet Islip High’s valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2018

Islip High School’s  2018 valedictorian and salutatorian are the vastly talented Julia Hormann and Madeline Marconi, it was announced last week.

Julia, who earned a 105.12 weighted GPA, is the president of the school’s STEM Academy and Science Olympiad team, and vice-president of the National Honor Society.

She is the captain of the varsity tennis team and performed in Islip’s school musicals.

Julia will attend College of Charleston Honors College this fall, where she will major in biology.

She plans to join the college’s pre-health advising program and pursue a career in immunotherapy and cancer research as a physician assistant or pediatric oncologist, according to the district.

Madeline, an AP Scholar with Distinction who finished with a 104.73 GPA, serves as co-president of the school’s Math Honor Society, vice-president of the National Honor Society and youth co-president of the Islip Drug Education Awareness Community Task Force, as well as a member of the World Language Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Peer Ambassadors and the school’s pit orchestra and varsity cheerleading team.

She won the University of Rochester’s Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica Bertie Green Travel Award.

Madeline will attend Yale University in the fall, majoring in architecture.
