Winter on Long Island can be unpredictable, but one thing is certain — it gets cold.
If a tropical getaway isn’t in the budget, don’t worry — there are plenty of exciting indoor activities to keep the whole family entertained in eastern Long Island.
Here are five must-visit spots to check out this season — no winter coats required!
Urban Air Trampoline & Adventure Park | Lake Grove and Dix Hills

Urban Air Adventure Park is more than just a trampoline park. It’s a full-on adventure center with activities for all ages, featuring an indoor playground with tons of obstacles to traverse, a ropes course, a zipline, climbing walls, virtual reality, bumper cars, and an arcade.
The Lake Grove location currently offers a group pass that provides top-tier entry for three kids, two parent passes (covers trampolines only), a large one-topping pizza, three ICEES, two sodas, and socks for all for $150.
Game On Retro Arcade | Riverhead and Lake Grove

There aren’t many places on Long Island where you can enjoy an entire day of fun for just $15 per person. The Game On Retro Arcades, with locations in Tanger Outlets, Riverhead, and Smith Haven Mall, Lake Grove, will bring you back to your childhood while introducing your kids to the classic video games you loved.
Leave your quarters at home. Pay-one-price admission gives you access to unlimited play on original 1980s and 1990s video games and pinball machines. Plus, with these convenient locations, you can give your hands a break, go shopping, and come back to play some more.
Xplore Family Fun Center | Port Jefferson and Commack

It’s not hard to find children’s play areas on Long Island, but Xplore Family Fun Center, with locations in Port Jefferson Station and Commack, offers an experience that’s more engaging than most.
Activities like climbing walls, mini-bowling, a laser maze, a two-lane slide, an indoor playground, and an arcade are suitable for kids of all ages. Younger kids (under 4 ft.) will enjoy the kiddie ropes course. The whole family will want to join in a game of QBix, a new interactive, immersive attraction that goes beyond virtual reality.
Scott’s Pointe | Calverton

If you’re looking for indoor activities on Long Island, Scott’s Pointe in Calverton has plenty to do under one roof. The family-owned adventure park boasts the nation’s largest quarter-pipe surf wave for flowboarding, a unique watersport requiring balance and persistence.
Not up for watersports? Enjoy laser tag, mini-golf, a rock-climbing wall, a golf simulator, an arcade, a three-screen panoramic racing simulator, or axe-throwing. After you work up an appetite, enjoy a meal and drinks at the Lake View Grill.
Long Island Aquarium | Riverhead

Although many of the best exhibits at the aquarium, like the Sea Lion Show and the penguin exhibit, require braving the cold, there’s plenty to do inside as well. Most exhibits are open year-round, and outdoor crowds may be smaller during the winter.
If you prefer to stay indoors, you’ll want to feed the stingrays, stroll through the butterfly exhibits, and, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, sign up for a Shark Dive or Bug Encounter.
Now that the excitement of the holiday season is over, it’s time to plan fun indoor family activities to pass the time until we can all head to the beaches again!
