Report: Drug, alcohol rehab for women planned for Ursuline Sisters HQ

|

The Ursuline Sisters are looking to sell their Blue Point headquarters on Middle Road to a drug-rehab group that wants to open a facility for women, Newsday reported on Thursday.

According to reporter Bart Jones, the aging order of Catholic nuns is unloading its 8.3-acre property on Middle Road to the Westhampton Beach-based Seafield Center.

Seafield will be seeking to build a 76-beed drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, for women only.

The order has been headquartered in Blue Point since 1935. The move to sell was made to pay for rising living costs and health care expenses for the order, according to prior reports.

It costs the order $900,000 a year to run the St. Ursula Center, according to Newsday.

Town Councilman Neil Foley had been pushing the idea for a relocation of the Bayport-Blue Point public library to the center, which is 35,000 square feet in size.

The St. Ursula Center of today was rebuilt after a 1980 fire.
